GREENWAY RETREATS - POOL TRANSFORMATION
It all started when…
The original pool had a 15-year-old chlorinated pump system, that would have been costly to replace. Therefore we came up with a new solution, that involved a low energy, easy maintenance and a more natural way of enjoying a private pool.
Knowing that the client was wanting a more eco-friendly experience for their BnB guests, and taking a leaf out of a Scarlet Hotel in Mawgan Porth, not far from the client. A natural pool was a more viable path.
Steele Studio has incorporated the filtration plant beds with an ergonomic staircase into the water. Making the shelving high enough to hold the plants, but low enough for water to skim across. Circulating the nutrients around and oxygenating the water, making it safe enough to drink, in theory. Collaborating with David Pagan Butler and his company 'Organic Pools', we have been able to create a unique experience for the client and their guests.
Another area, that has been redesigned, is the lounge area adjacent to the pool. Working with 'The Millboard Company' was the best decking for this particular area. Creating a slightly curved retaining wall that housed some beautiful concrete spotlights, this makes the area a very seductive space to take a dip and relax. Reclaimed sleepers were used for the surrounding edges as the earth was slowly eroding onto the original path. Making this a crisp, neat plant bed to re-grow and populate the area with natural tones and textures.
ZEN GARDEN
An area that felt over grown and overwhelming, removed a large stagnant pond, rotten decking and expanded the courtyard for a firepit area, recreation and outdoor seating.
