Artistic Practice for Carclew House - Memorial Centre

By grounding this artefact into the existing site (Carclew House Ruin), represented by the granite as the main stable materiality of the ruin and introducing recycled copper elements, balanced by a single oak leaf alongside abstract shapes and planes as subtle nods to both the surrounding landscape and the new insertion. Carefully balanced, the piece moves softly and delicately in response to the slightest shift, establishing a poetic rhythm that mirrors the site’s own gradual decay when left untouched. Over time, the materials will weather and patine, reinforcing this dialogue between permanence and change and the “circle” of life itself. The artefact also acts as a structural and symbolic support for the new Memorial Hall.
